GANESH CHATURTHI
Ganesha, the elephant-headed son of Shiva and Parvati, is worshipped as the supreme god of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune. Before we start any pooja(prayer), we always evoke Lord Ganesha. Evoking lord Ganesha means, to awaken lord Ganesh element present in us! To move from negativity towards positivity, that is from tamas guna(dullness, laziness) to sattva guna(purity, harmony).
Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated on the day on which Lord Ganesha is believed to bestow his presence on earth in most of our homes, for all his devotees. Though it is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Ganesha, the symbolism behind the festival is much deeper.
On Ganesha Chaturthi, most of us install the idol of Lord Ganesha, which is made from clay, for a few days at our home. We appeal to Ganesha that the same life that exists within us, which is lord himself should reside in the idol for a short time. so that we can pray, be grateful, and also play with him. We want to return all that benevolence, which he has showered on us! Ganesha has given us water, so we offer water during pooja. Then we place fruits and food in front of his idol, which signifies that he has given us those, so we offer the same to him. It's because of his blessing we get sunlight and moonlight, hence we do aarti by lighting a Diya(lamp) for him. In this manner, a devotee expresses his devotion, gratitude towards Lord Ganesha. And as we all do, we take out some jewelry for some specific occasion and we keep it back again, once that occasion is finished. In the same way, once we are done with all our pooja and expressing gratitude towards lord Ganesha for some days, we request lord to come back to our mind, consciousness.
Why do we immerse Ganesha idol in the water after few days of Ganesh Chaturthi?
The ritual of immersing(visarjan) the idol after few days of worship reinforces the understanding that God is not in the idol, its actually inside us! So experiencing the omnipresence in the form and deriving joy out of the form is the essence of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
As we all know, Lord Ganesha's vehicle is a mouse. But how can an elephant ride on a mouse?? The mouse will be gone with one stroke of an elephant leg. The maker of this could be very intelligent or could be a fool, definitely not someone who is in the middle of them. Some people may consider the maker as a fool, but actually, he is very intelligent! One who is super intelligent can only think in this way.
Now, we all know that the computer, we operate a big window with the help of a mouse(gadget), we cannot access the functions of a computer without a mouse(gadget).
So what can a mouse(animal) do? It can just bite, nothing else. His logic is too small. The mouse is also a symbol of logic. Through logic, we can gain vast knowledge. Whatever science has given us today, it's because of logical reasoning! Enlightenment also happens with logic. Therefore lord Ganesha is also called a Master of logic!
If the lord is ours, sooner or later, we will get everything, which is needed, this faith will keep the grief away from us! The anxiety will never come near us. With this faith lord, Ganesha should be worshipped!
Not knowing, what is going to happen, keeps you in anxiety and stress. Not minding, what is going to happen, and giving your 100 percent. That is the action of a yogi.
GANESH CHATURTHI IS THE PROCESS OF BRINGING OUT THIS PRICELESS WISDOM WHICH IS HIDDEN INSIDE OUR MIND AND TO ENJOY THIS BLISS IN OUR LIFE!
