Yoga mudra is symbolic gestures often practice with hand and fingers or the whole body. This is entirely distinct and based on the principle of Ayurveda. Yoga mudra is understood as a healing modality. Yoga mudra used in combination with breathing exercise enlivens the flow of prana in the body and hence energies different parts of the body.

According to Ayurveda, any disease is caused due to imbalance of five elements(Air, Water, Fire, Space, Earth) in our body. Our fingers are said to be electrical circuits, they represent or have characteristics of these five elements and each of these five elements serves specific importance within the whole body. Our finger represents one of these five elements. The index finger represents Air element, the Small finger represents the Water element, the thumb represents the fire element, the Middle finger represents space elements, and the  Ring finger represents the earth element

The use of mudra adjusts the flow of energy, which in turn balances these five elements, that is Air, Water, Fire, Space, and Earth, and heals the body. Mudra actually creates a subtle connection with the instinctual pattern in the brain and influences the unconscious reflexes in these areas. The internal energy is, in turn, balanced and redirected, affecting change in the sensory organs, glands, veins, and tendons.
